The Jewish and Armenian peoples are bound together by our shared experience as the targets of genocide in the Twentieth Century. Here in Boston, our two communities honor this shared legacy, and have built strong bonds of solidarity over decades through ongoing joint advocacy and collaboration.  

At this time of year when both of our communities pause to remember our histories, and as we join with the Armenian community in the coming days to commemorate their experience of genocide, it is fitting and necessary as well that we pause to bring attention to the plight of the Armenian community in Nagorno Karabagh/Artsakh.  

The continued blockade of the Lachin Corridor – the only road connecting the Armenians of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia and the sole means by which food, medicine and other essential goods are able to reach the region – is creating an ongoing humanitarian crisis for the 120,000 Armenians entrapped in this region.  

We reaffirm our community statement of 2020 calling for United States intervention to restore calm, deescalate this conflict, and use our influence with our partners to end this blockade. We join with our partners in the Armenian Assembly of America in calling upon the United States Congress to meet the pressing humanitarian and recovery needs in Artsakh.  

We cannot sit idly by as the Armenian people face the risk of another extraordinary humanitarian disaster.
